Google Chrome

Google Chrome 9.0.597.19 Beta

Google Chrome is based on a popular WebKit engine which is also used in the Apple Safari browser. The browser itself has only the basic functionality. It provides tab browsing and pop-up window blocking. An interesting function of the Google browser is the possibility to move tabs between multiple browser windows or to create a new window for the tab alone. Users may pin a tab to the tab bar. The tab is then displayed as a single icon without a description. Pinned tabs are automatically launched when the browser is launched again indefinitely unless the user decides to unpin them.

The browser also contains a convenient website translation bar. It appears if a website is displayed in a language other than the browser display language. Chrome?s developers ensured its safety. Another function is an integrated file download manager and a settings import manager (from competing browsers). Each tab is launched in a separate process and isolated from the rest of the browser. The same is applicable for extensions and plug-ins which prevents the program from crashing in case one of the components fails. Google Chrome also offers an Incognito mode in which the user may safely browse websites without tracking scripts or cookies running.
